Probate valuations for antiques and contents
Written valuations of antiques and household contents for executors and solicitors, handled with care and discretion.
What a probate valuation is for
When someone dies, the value of their belongings has to be established for the estate. Probate valuations are at open market value on the date of death, which is the basis HMRC uses for inheritance tax.
Your solicitor or the estate’s adviser can tell you what the estate needs. We provide the written valuation of the antiques and contents.
How we work
We visit the property at a time that suits the family, go through the contents, and identify the pieces that carry real value. We understand these visits come at a difficult time, and we work quietly and without fuss.
After the valuation
If the family wants to sell, we can make an offer on pieces we’d buy, or advise on the best route for others, including auction where that suits a piece better. We don’t offer general house clearances, but we’re happy to look at the better pieces.
Arrange a probate valuation
Tell us roughly what the estate includes and where it is, and we’ll arrange a visit.
